The Ayrvale Angus Story

The White family have been breeding cattle near Ballarat since the 1860’s, with the original part of the farm officially given a land title in 1878.

Starting out as dairy farmers supplying the Ballarat Goldfields with milk from skills brought from England, the Whites were quick to adapt to the new harsher conditions in Victoria by selecting and breeding cattle to suit. As part of this Angus cattle were introduced to cross breed with dairy heifers until they finally wound up dairy farming.

In 2003 Ayrvale Angus was formed by Richard White with the purchase of 4 stud cows with calves at foot.

Learning as much as possible it soon became obvious that breeding bulls at the top end of the percentile bands was where he wanted to be. By sourcing top females and embryos, slowly the elite progeny have grown.

In early 2011 this was realised when Harry & Tom Lawson purchased two flush brothers AYRVALE BARTEL E7 & E8.

Today Ayrvale Angus is still a small stud, however growing all the time and moving with new technology as it comes along.

This hard work and perseverance means they have bred the:

  • #1 HBR LONG FED/ CAAB INDEX female in Australia.

  • #1 HEAVY GRASS & SHORT FED INDEX bull in Australia.

  • Equal #1 HBR LONG FED/ CAAB INDEX bull in Australia.

"We are continually striving to do better and produce some of the best performing bulls in Australia; to not only benefit our customers but the wider industry as well".
